History & Heroes: My Journey to Grandma's Marathon

It was a humble beginning in June 1977 when 150 runners toed the line on Highway 61, near Two Harbors, Minnesota.

Marathons were now beginning to pop up in cities across the country. The North Shore Striders Running Club knew they wanted to organize a marathon in their own backyard along one of the most scenic roadways in America.
